By default, Apple devices store photos as HEIC files. These files can be uploaded to Kahua for storage but cannot be opened for viewing or markups. There are two iOS settings that you may find helpful for uploading image files from Apple devices in a format that can be used for viewing and markups in Kahua.
The first setting ensures that files are transferred from the iOS device in a format that is compatible with the receiving device. They are typically converted to JPG files, which can be opened in Kahua for viewing and markups.
To modify this setting, complete the following steps:
- On your iOS device, navigate to Settings > Photos.
- Under Transfer to Mac or PC, select Automatic.
However, if the receiving device can handle HEIC files, the files may not be converted upon transfer. If so, you may want to modify your settings to store images on your iOS device as JPG files. Note that JPG files will take up more space on your device than HEIC files.
To modify this setting, complete the following steps:
- On your iOS device, navigate to Settings > Camera.
- Select Formats.
- Select Most Compatible. Photos taken with the camera will be stored as JPG files.
If none of these options are suitable for you, there are utilities available online that can convert HEIC files to JPG files.
