Licensing Update FAQ

Licensing Update FAQ:

The following questions and responses are designed to clarify the recent changes to Kahua licensing:

  1. 1.  If I already have licenses for my users, will there be any impact?

No, your users will continue to operate in Kahua as they do today. In the future (at renewal), the new license structure and pricing will apply for those who purchased a set number of licenses. However, all of this occurs administratively and there is no end user impact in terms of what they can and cannot do in Kahua before or after the license changes.

Users will immediately benefit from the recent enhancements and new Design Management functionality.

  1. 2.  If I have aunlicensed third party with an existing user account working with me – or am a third party accepting File Manager shares what impact does this change have?

Users that are not licensed today, but are utilizing File Manager and/or sharing with File Manager, will have no impact through November 30th 2020. After November 30th 2020, all users will be required to have a Standard Kahua license in order to continue to access and collaborate in File Manager. Purchase can be made on the Kahua kStore (https://launch.kahua.com/kStore), where you can contact Kahua for more information as needed.

  1. 3.  If I need to add a new user to aexisting domain that is using File Manager shares, do new users need licenses?

New users invited and registered prior to June 30th, 2020 can also utilize File Manager for ‘free’ until the Nov 30th grandfather period is over. Any new user created after June 30th 2020 requires a Standard Kahua license according to the new model.

For those registered prior to June 30thAdmins on the Domain to which the new ‘unlicensed’ user is being added must take one additional step:

  1. All domains have been granted 100 unassigned ‘File Manager Basic’ licenses that expire November 30th, 2020. The Admin on the domain that is adding an unlicensed user must assign that user a ‘File Manager Basic’ license in the License appAll unlicensed users that existed as of Jan 31st, 2020 were already assigned this proactively. This File Manager basic license allows users to access File Manager at no cost until Nov 30th, 2020.

  1. 4.  If I am collaborating in applications other than File Manager already, is there an impact to me?

Any existing, licensed users actively working in File Manager and/or other application shares (RFIs, Submittals, Punchlist, etc.) will not see any impact – users will continue to access shares per usual and the price change will take effect at the next renewal of those licenses. If a new user comes onboard to a third party, and needs to access shares for apps other than File Manager, they too will need license and will purchase under the new Kahua license model.

  1. 5.  If a new third party domain is set up, what license model do they follow?

All new domains created via invitation will abide by the new license model – however, any new users before June 30th can access File Manager by requesting a ‘Free’ File Manager Basic license that is good through November 30th, 2020. Users added after June 30th will need the Kahua Standard license at the new price of $995 a user.
